Address changes
Customers can change their shipping address through the Order Editing portal. Google powers auto-fill of suggested addresses to make the experience seamless for customers. USPS validates shipping addresses to ensure that the order can be delivered to the new address and to prompt customers to change their address when they missed information at checkout. For example, the portal will tell a customer if their address seems to be missing an apartment number.
USPS Validation
USPS (United States Postal Service) uses a tool called the Address Management System (AMS) to validate addresses. The AMS is a database of every deliverable address in the United States, including residential and commercial addresses. When a customer enters an address in the Order Editing app, the app sends the address information to USPS, which compares the address to the AMS database to ensure that it is a valid address.
